My Style Journey: From 90s Throwbacks to Finding My Fierce Fashion Vibe. By Jasmine Lee
My Journey in Finding My Style: A Personal Evolution Finding my style has been quite the interesting journey. I grew up watching shows and movies from the 80s and 90s, and for a while, I truly believed that style from those decades was timeless—still current. There were moments when I’d wear dresses over shorts, long past the time it was considered cool. However, looking back, I can say that in the past year, I’ve really discovered my style in a deeper, more intentional way. It’s been about experimenting with colors that suit my skin tone, understanding the types of cuts and silhouettes that flatter my body, and embracing pieces that genuinely make me feel confident. As someone whose weight has fluctuated, especially after the pandemic, I’ve had to re-evaluate my wardrobe. The right diet and getting back to a healthier size and more toned physique forced me to assess what truly flatters me, versus simply following trends or trying to fit in. Believe me, it was trial and error, but every step has been worth it. I’m finally on the right track, and I’m genuinely excited to see where the journey continues to take me. Through this process, I’ve learned that certain colors—like green—bring out the natural beauty of my eyes, and I’ve discovered that halter necklines help play down my broad shoulders. These small revelations have been key to understanding what works best for me. So, while it took a while to get here, I’m finally on the road to discovering my authentic style. Finding confidence in what I wear has been an empowering process, and even when I try something new, I have a mental toolbox of what I’ve learned along the way. If you’re looking to find your own style or figure out what makes you feel confident, I’d advise you not to be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the journey! And if you’re lucky enough to have a natural fashion sense, don’t be shy about asking a friend for some honest advice along the way. Signing off, Your fashionable bestie, Jasmine Lee
